Here’s the eighth edition of my #followfriday series featuring a few up-and-coming bloggers! This month I tried Liz’s fudgy brownies, Lori’s apple cinnamon sugar donuts and Jenna’s snickerdoodle cookies. Those last two recipes (especially the donuts) have me incredibly excited for fall baking! It’s officially my favorite time of year, and I can’t wait to share more fall-inspired recipes with all of you.
(Read January’s feature here, February’s feature here, March’s feature here, April’s feature here, May’s feature here, and June’s feature here, and July/August’s feature here.
Note: I adapted all of the recipes to be gluten free.
These brownies from Liz at OwlbBaking are thick, rich and fudgy, with a flaky top and chewy edges. She describes them as the “best ever brownies,” which I think is a fair description. I don’t make brownies very often, and these left me questioning why on earth not! I shared these with my sister’s family, and they were a hit with them, too. (And that’s saying something because my nieces and nephews are pretty picky.) If you’re looking for a brownie recipe that’s easy to make and even easier to eat, this one’s for you!
These apple cinnamon sugar donuts from Lori at Pop of Gold are legitimately one of my favorite #followfridays yet! I knew as soon as I took these out of the oven that this recipe is a winner. The apple, cinnamon and other fall flavors blend perfectly into a soft, flavorful treat that made my whole house smell mouth-wateringly good. (Keep in mind that our house is only 1,000 square feet, so I’m not sure how far the fall aroma will travel in your house!) Another recipe that’s easy-to-make that I bet your whole family will love!
I know there are a lot of snickerdoodle recipes out there, but I definitely recommend trying this one from Jenna at Busy Girl Baking. The edges are chewy, the middle is soft and the cinnamon sugar coating is exactly as it should be. Snickerdoodles are a cookie classic, with no frills needed. I also love how easy these were to make. Jenna notes in her post that it’s hard to tell when they’re done because they don’t brown that much, but here’s one trick I use. The middle should be soft to the touch but not wet and doughy.
Have you tried any of these recipes? Or do you have any favorite recipes that I should try? Tell me about them in the comments or tag me @rosesandwhiskers on Instagram if you see one I’ll like! I might feature it in a future #followfriday post.
Happy baking!
